The console release of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will be postponed indefinitely so that the PC version can only be fixed. Prior to this announcement, there was no information available about when the game would be released for Xbox Series S/X. The PC version of the game was supposed to launch in November. As a result, the game’s creator, Fatshark, has also chosen to postpone the release of the game’s anticipated seasonal content in order to address player feedback regarding the creation of a “complete” crafting system, a rewarding progression loop, and PC performance optimization. Console gamers may be disappointed by this news, but based on Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s generally negative reviews on Steam, it appears to be the right course of action.
“At Fatshark, we are incredibly proud of our ability to produce a game that millions of people can enjoy. As stated in the open letter from Martin Wahlund, CEO and co-founder of Fatshark, “This was what we set out to do with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide—to create a game with a level of depth that keeps you playing for weeks rather than just a few hours. “We fell short of their expectations. The Xbox Series S/X version will also be put off, and the developer will focus solely on perfecting the game instead of releasing any expensive cosmetics soon. The creator asserts that it was unable to continue releasing new content without first addressing the growing player complaints.
Warhammer 40K Darktide, which was released in late November, appeared destined for success because of its brutal combat and meticulously designed environments. It almost seemed like a no-brainer to add 40K’s gunplay into the mix to produce better results after borrowing the four-player co-op formula from its previous fantasy-based entries Warhammer: Vermintide 1 and Vermintide 2. It pits players against a bloodthirsty enemy known as the Admonition, a heretical cult that wants to rule the planet Atoma Prime, in the brutal hive city of Tertium. Class, appearance, and gender are the main categories for customization, with the crafting system receiving additional attention. Unfortunately, the latter left a misleading impression, which Fatshark plans to correct.
The Signal update, the first piece of Darktide content to be released, was just made available by Fatshark. It included the much-desired private sessions feature, two new weapons for the Zealots and Ogryns classes, and a new mission for the Comms-Plex 154/2f. The update also added two new mission modifiers: “Hunting Grounds” featured more Pox Hounds, and “Assault Missions” increased ammo gathering while lowering healing capacity.
