According to reports, WhatsApp is introducing a new chat transfer feature that will make it easier to move a user’s account from one device to another. For the time being, it appears that Android phones are the only devices that can use the feature, which transfers chats and attachments between two phones. To maintain feature parity, the Meta-owned messaging platform is anticipated to eventually make the functionality available to iOS users.
The company is reportedly introducing a chat transfer feature on the most recent beta of WhatsApp for Android smartphones, which enables users to directly transfer chats from one device to another without backing them up to the cloud, according to a report by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo.
Before users could move their chats to another phone, they had to back them up to their Google Drive account. Users can still restore chat backups using the cloud, and the chat transfer tool has been added as a substitute. Users have the option to install WhatsApp on the new device without restoring their previous conversations.
Users who have extensive chat backups and do not want to back them up and restore them over a slow Internet connection may find this feature of great use. It might provide a quicker option than transferring chats from an old smartphone to a newer one.

There is a new option available now that is visible under the Chats section. Users must navigate to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Chat Transfer in order to access this. The users would then need to use the device they want to transfer the chats to scan a QR code that would be displayed by the app.
Only a few beta users have access to the feature right now. According to the report, it works with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.9.19. It also says that over the next few weeks, future updates will gradually roll out the feature to all Android users.
Additionally, WhatsApp recently disclosed that users can link up to four smartphones to their accounts. However, the primary handset is the only one that can authorize the use of the other devices. Similar to WhatsApp Web, where users must sign in with a QR code, the authorizing process is similar. The business also mentioned that it was developing a different OTP-based authentication system.
