Wednesday saw the launch of a mobile app by the Western Railway (WR) that will enable commuters to view the real-time status of trains on its suburban network, which runs between Churchgate station in south Mumbai and Dahanu in the neighbouring Palghar district.

The Yatra app, according to the zonal railway, has a number of additional features.

According to a press release from Western Railway’s chief public relations officer, Ashok Kumar Misra, general manager of the company, the app was officially launched in front of dignitaries and railway officials at Churchgate station concourse.

All of the Western Railway’s suburban trains have GPS tracking devices, allowing the app to provide their current locations.

Thakur claimed that thanks to an app created in partnership with a private company, commuters will be able to both see and track trains in real time.

People who commute can view the live location in just three easy steps. “Commuters can use the map to find the closest stations, enter the source station, and track the train of their choice to determine how close or far they are from the train and make travel arrangements,” he said.

According to Thakur, commuters will receive accurate information about train announcements, live updates, the most recent timetable, maps of the main railway stations, and their amenities.

Additionally, the software offers details on Mumbai Metro services and buses. It also has a section where users can provide feedback.

Travelers can use the app to find nearby tourist attractions and places to visit near stations, and they will have quick access to vital railway and medical emergency contact numbers.

The app is also divyangjan-friendly, according to the Western Railway.

According to Thakur, Google Assistant makes it simple for Divyang commuters (people with disabilities) who use voice commands to operate their smartphone to locate their train in real time.

The Central Railway had made its suburban trains’ live tracking available through the app as of last July.
