Over 50 million copies of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have been sold worldwide.

Publisher CD Projekt Red reported that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. With over 75 million units sold, the absurd feat makes the franchise—which includes The Witcher, released in 2007, and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings—among the most commercially successful series ever. Just behind Red Dead Redemption 2, which has sold 53 million copies, The Witcher 3 is currently ninth on the list of all-time best-selling games. These figures are anticipated to increase over the next few years, helped significantly by the recently released next-gen update, which adds ray-tracing support, improved console performance, and a number of quality-of-life improvements.

In a video summarising CD Projekt Red’s Q1 financial results, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said, “This shows the tremendous strength of the franchise.” This gives us more reason to be excited about the future and our upcoming projects that are set in the Witcher universe. The studio is currently working on a completely new Witcher trilogy, which will be released six years after the first one, code-named Witcher Polaris. The first installment of the aforementioned saga was released in March of last year and featured a snowy key art. Unreal Engine 5 will replace CD Projekt Red’s internal engine, the company said. Of course, the foundation established in the trilogy’s first installment will help the sequels.

For its comprehensive remake of the first Witcher game, the studio will continue to receive support from Epic Games. The reimagining, code-named Canis Majoris, will adopt an open-world strategy while following the same plot as the 2007 game, which saw the tough monster hunter Geralt of Rivia on a mission to reclaim his memories. This would be the first time CD Projekt Red remakes a game from its library, even though it did receive a remaster with new models and general stability.
