142 employees from the Microsoft-owned GitHub’s engineering group were among those let go, according to persons with knowledge of the situation on Tuesday.
The decision’s affected parties were dispersed among the company’s Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Delhi offices.
A GitHub official responded when informed that the choice was made as part of the business’s reorganisation strategy.
The spokesperson stated: “As part of the reorganisation plan shared in February, workforce reductions were implemented on Tuesday as part of difficult but essential decisions and realignments to both protect the health of our business in the short term and grant us the capacity to invest in our long-term strategy moving forward.
The firm is focused on making sure that GitHub is a fully integrated platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) for developers and customers, the spokesperson continued.
“With this focus, we are condensing several company processes, some of which are situated in India, and this has led to the reduction of roles. These adjustments won’t have an effect on our customers or the 10 million (one crore) Indian engineers who use GitHub every day because we remain dedicated to serving the Indian market “”, the representative declared.
In order to better match costs to revenues, Microsoft had indicated in January that it would let go of about 10,000 workers.
In a stock transaction on June 2, 2018, Microsoft purchased GitHub for $7.5 billion, or around Rs. 61,775 crore.
